Grief and Grit

This was rowdy. These next three photos I made in succession at a protest this Friday that took place at Tahrir Square. It was made up of supporters of Cairo’s infamous football club Al Ahly, who in the wake of the massacre in Port Said, which killed 73 (rumored to be many more) supporters, have taken to the streets to demonstrate their anger at the military rulers for what most believe to be a set up, as well as to honor those who were lost. The Ultra's as they call themselves are a massive, intricate and well organized fan club that played a key role in the revolution.  Many see the recent massacre as the military rulers attempt at retribution. This was, as it was described to me in a variety of ways, a showing of their fortitude as well as their sorrow.

A massive rock that took four men to pick up is placed atop this man's chest.

Four men proceed to smash the rock with sledgehammers.

Until it has broken.
